The increase of mattress sales globally has risen, according to the monthly Bedding Barometer which is sponsored by the International Sleep Products Association (ISPA). This organization collects statistical bedding component sales and mattress sales data from over 700 manufacturers.

Some of these mattress and bedding component manufactures are small family businesses and some are giant corporations, all of who are members of the ISPA. These manufacturers are located globally in over 50 countries and are a diverse source of consumer databases when it comes to mattress sales.

The International Sleep Product Association (ISPA) supplies industry standards for manufactures of mattresses and bedding components. The emphasis is placed on the industry as a whole and relates to the health and the quality of services provided by the bedding industry to consumers. These effective standards are compiled into statistics and released to the media and the general public.

Mattress sales from family owned business to giant bedding manufactures provide a variety of products and services which are cost-effective for reduction of their bottom-line expenses.

These savings are then passed on to the consumers. ISPA standards are upheld by their members who are committed manufacturers of quality bedding components and mattresses. This standard of quality of mattress and bedding components provide a positive image for the bedding industry.

Mattress sales may have fluctuated sharply throughout the years as the manufacturers of bedding furniture and other components have changed in their design and function of bedroom furniture.

As many consumers are investing in healthier lifestyles they are also investing in the newly innovative bedding such as therapeutic mattresses. The increase of the awareness that a better night’s sleep promotes better health has many mattress manufacturers also investing in higher technological bedding components and mattresses.

The Better Sleep Council (BSC) provides a variety of educational programs for its Better Sleep Month (BSM), which focuses on educating consumers about links between a better night’s sleep and their health and how the right mattress can increase their quality of life.

Additionally, the BSC promotes the education venues like the importance of routine mattress replacement and knowing how to shop for mattresses and bedding components.

As consumer awareness of the benefits of therapeutic mattresses and other innovative mattress designs are increasing, the need for manufactures to provide more affordable pricing of mattress and bedding components have also increased.

Many manufactures are reexamining their pricing strategies as more and more of these innovative bedding products are hitting the markets.

Mattress manufactures are also taking advantage of the impulse sales generated by consumers searching for these newer mattresses. Cross-merchandising strategies also include comfortable in-store demo settings, advertisements which include video DVDs and informational brochures.

Hard-sales tactics are a thing of the past when it comes to consumers who are purchasing mattresses and other bedding components because they now represent the educated public. This is in part due to the increased awareness of mattresses and bedding components through consumer reviews and the educations venues of the International Sleep Product Association (ISPA) and the Better Sleep Council (BSC).
